This is a wonderful early Ojibwe Chippewa American Indian peace pipe bowl dating to circa 1870-1880. The piece, which is from the Ojibwe Chippewa Native American Indians of Northern Wisconsin, shows a “T” traditional shape hand-carved of beautiful steatite stone with an extraordinary artful silver pewter and red catlinite pipestone inlay along with a very rare vein of quartz running through one side of the steatite. The piece is expertly created with immense detail. The piece is paired with a later added wood stem with brass tacked and red ocher mineral incised line carved design. Provenance: The piece is pictured in the 2009 book, “The Mark Francis Collection of American Indian Art” on page 35 figure 54. The stem measures overall 18.5”L and is made of ash. Overall the piece together measures 25.25”L with a pipe that is 7.25”L by 3”H. This is truly a rare authentic Great Lakes region pipe and stem with wonderful art appeal.
