This is an exceptional early rare publication of Life with Indians Travel Scenes and Adventures Among the Tribes of North America by George Catlin circa 1876 first edition by Paris Librairie Hachette Et Ce. 79, Boulevard Saint-Germain, 79 Trous Drouits Reseves. The book was published as a compilation of George Catlin’s earliest works about the Native American Indian Tribes of North American in the 1800’s. The book shows the deluxe leather green embossed hard binding with gilt gold lettering along the spine, “G. Catlin / LA VIE / CHEZ / LES INDIENS” and a beautiful wreath seal on the front cover showing a standing lion holding a sword marked, “LYCEE DE LYON”. The book was published in French and is the first French Edition. The piece shows all of the excellent 25 vibrant illustrations done in engraving form with wonderful detail, truly a rare find. Early Catlin Editions can carry a value exceeding $6,000 at auction with this being a circa 1876 scarcely seen edition. Title in French, “La Vie Chez Les Indiens”. The book shows overall good condition for its age. It measures 4.75" x 7.25".
