This coin was won in a craps game the night gaming ended in Reno on 30 September 1910. Although gaming and Nevada seem to have and unbreakable history, there was a time when it did end (temporarily of course). Starting in 1908, Reno’s Anti-Gambling League was determined to end gaming once and for all. It took about 2 years, but pressure from the public eventually moved politicians to ban gaming in Nevada. Of course, this didn’t stop people from gambling, which still happened in speakeasies and other underground places throughout the state. In remembrance of gaming’s last day, the coin reads “Won on the Field in Reno Nevada. Last night” and the date. The obverse dates 1906, little wear [Ref: Legalized Casino Gaming in the United States, Cathy H. C. Hsu, 1999, pp 4, 5]. - Jacobitz Collection -59800
