The lot features a Nez Perce Native American Indian beaded tobacco pipe pouch dating to the Indian Reservation period of circa 1890-1900. The piece shows an Indian brain-tanned hide with long, artfully beaded panel sewn on the top along with Indian tanned frilly hand-cut fringe. The beadwork shows a nice geometric chevron pattern in semi-transparent Cheyenne pink and sky padre medium to light blue. The back of the back shows no beadwork. The beaded panel is likely a recycled piece, common among Reservation pieces. The bag may have been used as a pipe bag and was more likely used as a tobacco pouch. The piece shows some staining and shrinkage of the hide along with wear from age and use. Overall the piece measures 30 inches long by 6 inches wide.
