1855 - Extremely rare "The New Mexico Mining Company" document No. 40, hand-cancelled, certified to David Walker for 10 shares. Signed by the president and secretary, and crossed out in the cancelling. Dated June 19, 1855. Border design with intricate filigree at each end, with central landscape vignette. Single matted frame. Certificate measures 9.5"x6", the frame 15"x12.5". In the early 1800`s, a surveyor named Brown showed William Ralston silver-rich ore samples he had collected in the Pyramid mountains. Ralston, the founder of the Bank of California in San Francisco, invested heavily in mining claims around the area. The town of Ralston City sprang up, which was later renamed Shakespeare. The silver mines never really panned out. -61498
