The Nevada Central Railroad was chartered 7 August 1879 and opened 24 February 1880 [Ref: Poor’s Manual of Railroads, 1899, p. 589]. The construction of the Nevada Central Railroad between Battle Mountain and Austin, Nevada began in 1879. The company ceased operations in 1938. Heart shaped brass padlock, restamped “NcRR” on rear of shackle. The shackle front is marked “Patented June 25 78” below a row of illegible markings which may read “Bohanan Broon LV.” The shackle front is also marked “115” and “S.” The S marking, and the “9” shape of the keyhole indicate that the lock was used to secure switches. The front key drop is unmarked, and the spring mechanism is broken. Chain fob intact, but missing chain. It should be noted that Eagle Lock Co. did not usually make Railroad locks. Union brass company was a typical manufacturer of NCRR locks. This lock, therefore, is not consistent with other NCRR locks. - Jacobitz Collection -59565
