The Nevada State Agricultural Society was formed through in the late 19th century with the first fair being held in Reno in October of 1885. The exhibition consisted of 6 departments; livestock, agricultural products, horticultural products, manufactures and mechanics, mining, mills and medals. Medals were created and awarded the best exhibit in each department. These are silver medals that measures 37.7mm. This item is unsigned and almost uncirculated with scattered field marks. On the obverse ORGANIZED TO ENCOURAGE ADVANCMENT IN THOSE ARTS WHICH BENEFIT MANKIND. On the Reverse AWARDED BY THE NEVADA STATE AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY TO/ JAS.
