The town's "first years [saw] several mining companies start . . . operations, but most of the district's yield came from the Nevada Wonder Mining Company, founded in September 1906. Eastern capitalists ultimately took over the company and began systematic development, especially after building a mill below the mine in 1913. Letter on Nevada Wonder Mining Company masthead, dated 1915 from the Chief Clerk to a Tonopah Attorney, discussing a dispute over unpaid bullion taxes as well as a method for paying administrative expenses. 2-4). Voucher of Nevada Wonder MC, issued at Wonder on Aug. 18, 1912. No. 722 for $6.75 "invoiced against Geo. Brown," with "Office Copy" stamped in red across face. Issued from "Philadelphia Office, Lia. Ins. Fund. Statement for above voucher, made out to Geo. Brown for $6.75 from The Postoffice Store, Jas. M. Keir, Proprietor. Additional typed page listing what was purchased, the total, and who issued the voucher. 5). Report on the Nevada Wonder mine, dated 1938. Also includes statement of shipments from mine in Nov/Dec 1937 and ore shipments since Jan. 1, 1938. Six page document includes sections on holdings, location, an extensive history, ore reserves, recommendations, and conclusions. Very thorough assessment of property. 6). Nevada Greenback Wonder Mining Company stock certificate, dated 1907. Incorporated in Nevada, Marck, 1907. Foldlines with several 1/2"-1" fold tears noted. 7). Wonder Rainstrom Mining Company of Nevada, dated 1909. Incorporated in Nevada, signed by H.L. Earhart as President and Charlie Rose as Secretary. Certificate no. 99, issued for 1600 shares to John Chambers. 8). Nevada Victor Mining and Reduction Company First Mortgage Gold Coupon Bond. Measures 10" x 13," includes 9 of ten coupons. Incorporated 1908, bond number 528 was issued January 1, 1909. 9). Receipt from insured parcel from U.S. Mail. Postmarked with 1" circular Wonder, NV stamp, dated Oct. 25, 1916. 10). Leather postcard with "I'm having a (parrot illustration) and a (monkey illustration) time in Wonder Nev." - Clint Maish Collection
