April 1, 1890-Moss Mining District Original District Recorder`s Book. Mining Laws, and List of Mining Claims in Moss Mining District, Esmeralda County, Nevada. 1884- April 1st, 1890. It contains approximately 20 pages of handwritten notes of meetings and location notices. This is a unique record of a mining district heretofore unrecorded, not mentioned in Lincoln or Tingley. The Moss District was formed December 6, 1884 by a committee interested in organizing a mining district. The meeting was "...held at Moss Camp, Gillis Range of Mountains.…." P. Topp was elected Chairman and J. Gillon, Secretary. John Warner was the District Recorder. The Moss District was located in the Gillis Range on the east side of Walker Lake. The two districts noted there were Buckley and Fitting, both established well after 1900. The Moss District was probably an early name for one of these two districts. The book defines it as starting at a point on the Carson & Colorado Railroad at Moss` mill, eastward 5 miles and northward 5 miles, square. HKA#64259
