Montezuma District. Cert. #47, issued for 2,000 shares in 1909. Incorporated in South Dakota in 1906. Signed by T.L. (Tasker) Oddie as president. The Montezuma district is located 7 miles west of Goldfield, Nevada. Ore was first found in the district in 1867 with good activity through the 1880’s. There was a revival between 1905 and 1907 as prospectors ventured west from Goldfield (Paher). According to Paher, the Montezuma district yielded over $500,000, a respectable sum for the remote area. Tasker Oddie must have seen greater things as this company was still operating at Montezuma in 1909. Clear signature from one of Nevada’s mining giants. Oddie was later governor of the state of Nevada and a U.S. Senator. Oddie was also instrumental in the development of Tonopah. Eagle vignette. Black and red on crème.
