Incorporated in New York. 10.75 x 7.25. Cert # 418 issued to J.B. Bacon on April 14, 1868 for 10 shares. Signed by secretary Charles T. May and president F. Mackin. Some wear folds and water marks. Red 25 cent revenue stamp located on the left side. Austin was a famous silver mining camp located almost in the middle of the state. The mining camp rose to fame in the early 1860s and many miners soon settled around the area. Lots in the city of Austin, also the Lander County seat, cost about $8000 in gold. By the 1880s, Austin’s luck started to turn and the city declined [Ref: Carlson, Nevada Place Names, 1974, p. 43]. - Fenske Collection
