Established in 1835 by a group of settlers, Las Vegas was hub of Spanish and American culture and a part Mexico territory. It wasn’t until the Mexican-American War that the city of Las Vegas was reassigned to the state of New Mexico made a part of the Union. The first photograph showed a view from El Paso Street looking North. The store fronts that can be read are "French Dye House" "Mason Francaise" and Moore’s and "Tyis Commission Merchandise." The photo measures 7.25" x 4.25" and 8" x 5" on the tan mat. A date appears on the bottom of "June 1887." People and a trolley car appear down the street. No marks appear as to who the photographer was. The second photograph shows several large brick buildings. The photographer is identified as F.E. Evans Views and Curios of East Las Vegas. The photograph measures 3.75" x 6.25" and 7" x 4." HKA#62749
