For your consideration is this cluster of Dactylioceras ammonites quarried from Big Horn County in Montana. Dactylioceras was a widespread genus of ammonite from the Lower Jurassic period. Mass mortality specimens of Dactylioceras are common, suggesting they may have died shortly after spawning. Dactylioceras fossils have been collected from almost every continent. They are extremely important as a key index fossil for identifying their period of the Jurassic. This piece measures 8.5" x 5" and there are over a dozen ammonites visible on this wonderful piece.
