This lot features a set of hide beaded moccasins from the Montana Crow Native American Indians and dating to circa 1940-1950’s. The piece shows an Indian tanned hide with very unique one piece construction that is adorned with early glass trade pony beadwork, all being trade thread sewn. The tops of the moccasins are adorned with a unique and desirable Key Hole (or Keyhole) beaded pattern, a unique and desirable design shown in colors of black and chalk white. The moccasins show a medium height ankle. The keyhole design is on another piece of hide and shows a keyhole cutout of red stroud trade cloth at the center. Provenance: From one of the most prominent American Indian Collections in Billings, Montana, where the set was found to be an authentic example. The set shows very unique, long tapering tongues, which were wetted and folded as they are shown now. Each moccasin measures overall 10.75”L soles by 3.5”W by 4.5”H ankle.
