Featured in this lot we have a Missoula Mercantile gun cabinet display case originating from the early 1900’s in Kalispell, MT. The piece dates to circa 1897-1911. This impressive gun cabinet display case is constructed from solid quarter sawn oak with reinforced miters. The case has a hexagonal construction with large glass pieces for the display of firearms in the mercantile shop. This piece has a rotating red carousel which holds 36 long guns. This early 1900’s display cabinet predates the Kalispell Mercantile shop. The Missoula Mercantile sold everything from groceries to wagons. By 1897, the Kalispell branch employed twenty men and covered a 300 mile sales territory, delivering by train as far as Havre. Building additions in 1901, 1903, and 1908, and the installation of large new display windows, provided spacious quarters when the retailer became Kalispell Mercantile in 1911. The glass and oak show very good condition. The locking mechanism for the case is not present. The case measures 56" x 32 1/2" x 32 1/2".
