Featured in this lot is this Mata Ortiz polychrome parrot pottery vessel by Noe Quezada. The pottery vessel is wonderfully and professionally crafted ceramic construction that shows a polychrome decorated geometric patterns that shows three raised parrot decorations adorning the top side walling of the pottery vessel. Mata Ortiz pottery is a recreation of the Mogollon pottery found in and around the archeological site of Casas Grandes (Paquimé) in the Mexican state of Chihuahua. Named after the modern town of Mata Ortiz, which is near the archeological site, the style was propagated by Juan Quezada Celado. Quezada learned on his own to recreate this ancient pottery and then went on to update it. The condition of this large pottery vessel is good with no obvious signs of damage and shows good overall condition. The measurements of this pottery vessel is 11 1/2" x 8" x 8".
