Watercolor on Paper, framed. Featuring a portrait of a dubat with rifle. Signed de Franceschi Roma on the lower right corner. Gallery label affixed on verso and inscribed TILDEN-THURBER / FINE ART DEALERS / PROVIDENCE, R. I. with pencil inscribed H. V. Allen / No. 404. Attributed to Mariano De Franceschi (1849-1896, Italian). 54 x 37 cm (21.2 x 14.5 inches). Framed size: 67 x 50 cm (26 x 20 inches). The word dubats was the designation given to armed irregular bands employed by the Italian "Royal Corps of Colonial Troops" (Regio Corpo di Truppe Coloniali in Italian) in Italian Somaliland from 1924 to 1941.
