This is an original Madeline Tafoya (1912-2002) black on black Santa Clara pottery bowl. Madeline Naranjo Tafoya was the first cousin of the well known Santa Clara potter, Margaret Tafoya. Madaline was taught by her grandmother and Margaret from an early age. In her lifetime, she won many awards from the Santa Fe Indian Market as well as the prestigious Governor's Award. The bowl shows a wonderful, deeply carved design. The bottom of the piece is signed "Madeline T Sta. Clara Pueblo". This signature was used from 1960-1980. The black on black pottery bowl is in very good condition. It measures 5" x 6" and is 3.5" tall.
