A group of three issued and U/C mining stock certificates from companies operating in the same area of Montana. 1) Boston=Montana=Seattle Company: Incorporated in Arizona in 1906. Cert. #292, issued in 1906 for 2,240 shares to W.W. McCullough. Signed by J.C. Beach as secretary and illegible as president. Three mining vignettes. Black and gold on crème. The company likely operated in the vicinity of the Boston Montana Mining Corporation (see cert. #3). 9.75” x 5.5”. EF. 2) Calumet & Montana Consolidated Mining Company: Incorporated in South Dakota in 1912. Cert. #4764, issued in 1917 for 10 shares to Block, Maloney & Co. Signed by Henry A. Oswald as president and John Boyle as secretary. Black and green on crème. 10.5” x 8”. Eagle vignette with flowers around the masthead. This company was a re-organization of the Calumet & Montana Mining Co., which had mines between Elkhorn and Radersburg, Montana. Eagle vignette with capital bldg, etc. in background. Splits at folds and ink spots. VG. 3) Boston-Montana Mining Corporation: Incorporated in Montana. Cert. #2161, issued for 100 shares to James Gilligan. Signed by Milton C. Rogers as vice-president and N.E. Flanders as assistant secretary. No vignette. Black and blue on crème. 11.5” x 8”. The Boston-Montana Mining Corporation incorporated in 1924 as the successor to the Boston Montana Corporation. The prior company was involved in lawsuits and the stock was virtually worthless in 1923 according to the 1924 Mines Handbook. The new company took over the old corporation and work on the Elk Horn property. Through 1922, the company had made expenditures totaling $5.3 million including the railway of $2.1 million, the mill and power line $1.2 million and mine development of $1.5 million. The company controlled two distinct mineral groups together with a 1,000 ton per day mill costing about $1 million. In addition, they controlled about 40 miles of railway connecting the properties with the Oregon Short Line Ry. The Boston Montana was a large copper-silver-lead miner which also had properties in the French Gulch Mining District in Deer Lodge County. VF
