<b>Black History</b><hr><b>Congress Abolishes Slave Trade &
'The War With The Seminoles'</b>

<b>May 13, 1818, COLUMBIAN CENTINEL, Printed by Benjamin Russell, Boston, MA, Very Fine.</b>
No. 3558. 20' x 14.5', 6-column layout, 4 pages. With news about the 'War with the Seminoles,' and a column about the 1817 'Abolition of the Slave Trade.' Despite the abolition, a 'witness' noted that a 'cargo of these unfortunates have recently been brought into Louisiana, and what think ye, courteous reader, was the ÔdispositionÕ made of them by the Legislature of Louisiana, composed of men who profess to be the champions of Liberty and Equality? --They have passed a law directing them, first, to be committed to jail, then have authorized the sheriff to sell them as slaves for life !' Light brown toning, occasional foxing, a few small edge splits. Sharp, dark printing, beautiful woodcuts. Terrific historic information.
