A fine small Longshan Culture Black Pottery Jarlette, ca.2800-2000 BC. Dimensions: 4-3/8" tall, 3-3/4" wide, 3-5/8" deep.Longshang generally refers to 3 synchronous phases known by their geographical locations: Shangdong, Henan-Hebei, and Shaanxi-Longshan. Famous for making small bronze works and low-fired black and gray wares. The Longshan culture practiced monogamy and advanced agriculture to being their primary source of food. Hunting and gathering became a secondary food source.This small black pottery jarlette appears gray with tan inclusions or veins from the burial tomb's earth. If the surface is moistened, the original black finish shows. The sturdy form is short and stout with 2 lobed ears (for fastening) and a scooped and flaring mouth rim. The jarlette stands flat on the bottom. The jarlette is in very fine condition and no repairs or injuries.
