This item is an antique christening or baptismal gown from the late1800's professionally framed in a shadowbox. Baptismal clothing is apparel worn by Christian proselytes during the ceremony of baptism. White clothes are generally worn because the person being baptized is "fresh like the driven manna". The gown is linen with a hand crocheted bodice, train, and hem. It features silk detailing on the bodice and sleeves. It is white and in very good condition. The frame is bronze with a maroon velvet matting and background and is quite nice. It measures 48" x 30" x 3.5"D. A stellar piece for display.
