For your consideration is this Large Japanese Porcelain Enamel Cloisonne Vase. In antiquity, the cloisonné technique was mostly used for jewelry and small fittings for clothes, weapons or similar small objects decorated with geometric or schematic designs, with thick cloison walls. By the 14th century this enamel technique had spread to China and Japan, where it was soon used for much larger vessels such as bowls and vases; the technique remains common in China and Japan to the present day, and cloisonné enamel objects using Chinese-derived styles were produced in the West from the 18th century. This large vase shows traditional Japanese decoration showing a cultural scene in an estate water garden where a noble is over seeing pleasantries of a female and her attendant. The scene depicts feudal Japan with structures in the distance along with trees and a floral border. The scene is mirrored on either side with beautiful decoration of flowers adorning the neck and lips of the vase as well as the base. The handles are of metallic sheen and accentuate the piece with a fluid flow of cloisonne type of design. The vase is in good display condition with some repaired cracks to the top of the vase. The measurements of this vase are 16" x 8" x 4".
