Tiberius was born 42 B.C. His mother came to marry Augustus, who adopted Tiberius as a son. When Augustus died in 14 A.D., Tiberius became his successor. Although minted during the reign of Tiberius, the obverse of this coin depicted Augustus, in a deified state. The attractive reverse depicts a large eagle atop a globe, and the inscription "S C", short for "Senatus Consulto". Often seen on bronze coins of the first two centuries A.D., this mark purported to indicate the coin was minted by the approval of the Roman Senate. This coin measures about 25 mm.
