Included in this lot we have a gelatin silver photograph print by Kurt Markus titled "Batwings" originating from the mid 1980's. Kurt Markus is a Montana photographer, writer, and filmmaker known for his black and white photos. He is best known for his cowboy and portrait collections and has had his work displayed in Vanity fair, Rolling Stone, New York Times, Entertainment Weekly, People, and many others. This photo shows a cowboy in a pair of batwing chaps and cowboy boots on a off white background. The chaps show simple leather construction and are worn from use with a pair of sturdy cowboy boots with a set of spurs. The photo is titled Batwings and was taken at the Oro Ranch in Prescott, Arizona, in 1986. The piece is part of Markus' first cowboy collections titled "Kurt Markus: After Barbed Wire" and is signed in the bottom right hand corner. The art is set into a wonderful black frame with a white border around the photograph. The back of the frame shows a gallery tag reading "Kurt Markus - Batwings, Oro Ranch, Prescott, Arizona, 1986 - 20x16 inch silver print - Signed by the artist on recto Printed Later Print #15 - From the collection of the artist Kurt Markus: After Barbed Wire, 1985". The piece shows very good condition overall with no wear on the piece. The frame measures 23 1/2" wide by 27 3/4" tall and the art measuring 14 1/4" wide by 17 3/4" tall.
