"Placer Mining: A Handbook for Klondike and Other Miners and Prospectors", published in 1897 by the Colliery Engineer Company of Scranton, PA. The book teaches aspiring prospectors everything they need to know about finding gold in the Yukon, with chapters such as "Routes to The Yukon Gold Fields" and "Mining Regulations of Northwest Canada", as well as giving a crash course in the history and practice of placer mining. It includes an excellent fold-out map of Alaska and the Northwest Territories, with a close-up view of the Klondike Mining District. Also includes detailed illustrations and diagrams throughout depicting mining procedure. This unique book, published just a year into the Klondike Gold Rush, provides detailed contemporary accounts of mining in this historic area.
