John William Waterhouse (1849-1917) is one of the preeminent classical painters of the 18th century. He was raised among a family of painters and later became a student of the esteemed Royal Academy of England. Waterhouse?s exceptional ability to render a composition is evident throughout his five decades of work. His work covers classical and genre themes and later works show interest in themes associated with Pre Raphaelites, particularly tragic or powerful femme fatales.
A lifelong love for the legends of the past, subject to many of his works, inspired this British artist?s masterpiece. John William Waterhouse?s, ?The Lady of Shallot? is one of the most recognized and loved of the English paintings. It is based on the poem of the same name, published in 1822 by the great English poet Lord Tennayson. Waterhouse composed on canvas the tragic story of Elaine of Ascolat, a woman who suffers under a curse of a lifetime of isolation. It is a tragic story, yet the painting is a thing of beauty. Waterhouse delicately masters the tragic beauty and emotion of the character.

This high quality print is custom framed by Le Chateau?s renowned master framer Jeanette Schoenrock. It is surrounded by a richly colored double mat and original, expensive, textured golden frame. Measuring 20? x 23?,?The Lady of Shallot? is indeed a celebrated masterpiece and is exquisitely presented.
