He is a self-taught and dedicated artist who has spent over 40 years painting Montana scenery (particularly the Big Sky area) with oils on canvas. Jim is well-known for his realistic landscapes that portray a "sense of place," and each piece begins with a plein-air study of the subject. This piece shows a Montana forest scene of various trees. The sky is blue in the background and the light shines through onto the forest ground in the center of the painting. It is signed in the bottom left reading, "Jim Dick ©".
