ALS in French, signed “J. P. Sartre,” 23 pages on six sets of adjoining sheets, 7.75 x 11.75, August 26, 1937. An extremely long, untranslated letter to the French theatre actress Wanda Kosakiewicz. In very good condition, with intersecting folds, creasing, and staining (heaviest on the first page). Kosakiewicz was a love interest of Sartre and the younger sister of Olga Kosakiewicz, a student of the existentialist philosopher and writer Simone de Beauvoir, Sartre's lifelong companion. Sartre wrote that Wanda was one of the reasons that his friendship with Albert Camus went sour.
