James Cruze signed oversize portrait and The Covered Wagon Grauman’s Theatre program. (Paramount, 1923) Gelatin silver matte double-weight 10 ¾ x 13 ¾ in. portrait of director James Cruze inscribed in black ink at the lower right corner, “To Paul Stanhope, a great makeup artist – and a pretty good actor, Sincerely, Jim Cruze”. Good; with pin holes at corners and scrapes at upper image. Also includes an original Grauman’s Egyptian Theatre program for The Covered Wagon. This epic Western tells the story of Oregon-bound settlers with near documentary-like realism and remains Cruze’s best known film.
