Elder, Thomas L. INVITATION TO DINNER SPONSORED BY TOM ELDER FOR ATTENDEES AT THE 1908 ANA CONVENTION, FEATURING A BRITISH INDIAN ONE ANNA PIECE MOUNTED TO THE FRONT. Small [12.5 by 10 cm] cream-colored folded card printed in brown, featuring a winged cherub dressed as a waiter bearing a platter on top of which has been mounted a one Anna piece from British India of the Edward VII design that began to appear in 1906. Menu printed within. Back blank except for handwritten note saying that this came from Farran Zerbe. Near fine. A wonderful piece of ANA Convention memorabilia. The 1908 ANA Convention was held in Philadelphia, but New Yorker Tom Elder decided to sponsor a dinner for those still around on Monday, October 5 (the meetings having ended the previous Thursday). That October 5 also happened to be the first day of his important sale of the James Wilson collection was no doubt a happy coincidence. Held at fashionable Cafe Martin, Mint collection curator T. Louis Comparette gave a little talk on "The Progress and Aims of Numismatics in America." A charming piece of numismatic ephemera, and the first we recall seeing. (See front cover.)
