As a youth, Oscar Crockett (1887-1948, Pecos, TX) watched his cowboy brother Arthur make spurs. He later formed C&G Bits and Spurs, a partnership which he built with another young blacksmith, in 1914. The line was bought by C. P. Shipley (who had bought a few pair at the stockyard sales) when Oscar was in his mid-twenties, and he stayed on to manage the line for the Shipley company. After the War, Oscar and his brother Arthur were both back working in C. P. Shipley`s bit and spur department. The early, hand-forged Crockett style of bits and spurs is considered to be Texan, as they are overwhelmingly follow the Texan hallmarks of bit and spurs. The early Crockett spurs are extremely collectible [Ref: History of Oscar Crockett, Ned and Jody Martin: www.purecowboy.us/Crockett%20Spurs.htm]. -59264
