Historical Knickerbocker Steamboat Wall Plaque
Item/Description: A mid-20th century cast metal plaque of the historical American "Knickerbocker" steamboat originally built in 1843 by Smith and Dimon of New York, with her engine made by the West Point Foundry. It was a 291 foot side-wheeler steamboat with a wooden hull, designed for use on American rivers, especially the Hudson and Mississippi. As a large wooden steamer, it utilized paddle wheels on its sides for propulsion, a common feature among riverboats of that time. It regularly transported people and goods along the Hudson River, connecting New York City with Upstate New York, including Albany, a common route for the era's steamboats. This service was vital for Hudson River travel, with the Knickerbocker being a well-known vessel on that busy waterway for many years.

Made in the USA by the company, Sexton, that produced a wide range of popular cast metal wall decorations, from the 1960s to the 1980s. Verso marked "513 USA Sexton".
