Tall, green wine bottle recovered from the S.S. Central America shipwreck. It is 11-7/8 inches long, 3.5 inches in diameter at the base, and 5 inches from the base to the bottom of the shoulder. The top is 1-3/8 inches across at the neck band. Open pontil, museum wax visible in photo. This is known as a "wine vessel" which was used to extract wine from a barrel when a syphon was not available. The source of wine on this ship is unknown. The first award given for a California wine was 1856 to Capt. John Cooper for wine from San Jose.
