This is an image of the Grand Central Hotel covered in snow on a winter's day. The Grand Central Hotel was built in 1871 by A.J. Bayley and was open from May to October. The hotel was the first luxury hotel built in Tahoe City. The hotel soon became the top destination stop for the Comstock's elite. It boasted fine mahogany furniture and rugs fit for any adventurous millionaire. The photographer is identified as R.J. Waters, landscape photographer of Gold Hill, NV. This photograph was featured in the Lake Tahoe Series produced by Waters. On the back of the matte there is a map of Lake Tahoe listing important landmarks around the lake. The matte measures 8.5" x 5.25" while the photograph measures 8.10" x4.75." The focus is very sharp while the contrast is medium. There is very little wear on the matte and photograph.
