1906 - Interesting group of letters of correspondence from December 27, 1906 through February 4, 1908 between Truett Mines and Mining, the Begole Syndicate, and the Goldfield Mine Operators` Association. All are on letterhead, hand signed by the significant parties involved, and detail a stretch of time when a mine was shut down for wage increases, and the increases and benefits sought by the Miners` union. Gold was found in the Goldfield area in 1902. The Goldfield area produced $86 million in gold from 1903 until 1940. Wyatt and Virgil Earp came in 1904. Unions in the boomtown of Goldfield had a checkered history. The Western Federation of Miners was apparently the strongest, and staged strikes from December 1906 through January 1907 for higher wages. These letters are representative of that time frame. Excellent condition. -61842
