CDV of General Sylvester Churchill, U. S. Army. Namesake of Nevada's Fort Churchill and Churchill County. He served in the War of 1812, the Mexican War, and the Civil War, retiring with the rank of Brevet Brigadier General. His long and valuable service was honored by the naming of Fort Churchill in 1860 and Churchill County in 1861. From Brady's National Photographic Portrait Galleries Broadway and Tenth Streets. Churchill was a distant relative of Winston Churchill. The family resemblance evident in the portrait was noted by Winston Churchill and his contemporaries.
