French Louis XVI Style Cartel Wall Clock
Item/Description: Decorative French cartel wall clock executed in the Louis XVI taste, featuring an ornate gilt bronze (ormolu) case with ribbon-and-bow crest, floral garlands, and scrolling foliate ornament arranged in balanced neoclassical symmetry. Pendulum features a sunburst mask of Apollo, a popular motif often referred to as the "Sun King", a style commonly used for French portico, column, or mantel clocks during the 18th and 19th centuries, particularly seen in Louis XVI and Empire styles. The round white enamel dial displays black Arabic numerals and pierced hands, set behind a hinged glazed bezel and fitted with a mechanical movement.

Cartel clocks rose to prominence in 18th-century France during the reign of Louis XVI, with later 19th-century examples reviving the refined ribbon and garland motifs.
