Fredric Wertham, M.D. - ""Seduction of the Innocent,"" First Edition, With the Bibliographical Note (Rinehart, 1954). The infamous Dr. Frederic Wertham was a noted psychiatrist who launched a public crusade against the bad influence of comic books on America's children. The screed's dust jacket blurb proclaimed, ""This is the most shocking book of recent years. And it should be the most influential. " "Seduction of the Innocent is the complete detailed report of the findings of famed psychiatrist Fredric Wertham, on the pernicious influence of comic books on the youth of today. No parent can afford to ignore it."" Wertham claimed ""crime comics"" inspired juvenile delinquency and bad behavior. His findings were the result of seven years of ""scientific investigation"" into comic books. His crusade devastated the comic book industry. This copy's dust jacket is price-clipped, is lightly soiled, has edge wear, and also color fading of the red lettering at the top of the spine; otherwise it is in Good condition. The book is in Very Good condition and contains the scarce Bibliographical Notes found on pages 399-400. The comic book industry put pressure on Rinehart to remove this bibliography, which listed the ""offending"" comic publishers, and these pages are missing from most copies of the book.
