“Grand Reception of the Notabilities of the Nation, At the White House” on the Evening of March 4, 1865
1865-Dated Civil War Beautiful ABRAHAM LINCOLN related Print by Frank Leslie titled, “Grand Reception of the Notabilities of the Nation, At the White House,” Framed, Choice Extremely Fine.
Outstanding uncolored Rare Print by Frank Leslie, “Grand Reception of the Notabilities of the Nation, At the White House”, printing above title reads: “Entered ... in the year 1865 by Frank Leslie...”, probably reproduced from the original Lithograph as and Bonus for purchasing “Frank Leslie’s Chimney Corner.” This collection contains issues from Volume I and II (1865) of Frank Leslie's Chimney Corner story paper for Ten Cents per issue, as boldly printed in the lower right corner. This large Print measures 20.5” x 15.5” (by sight) likely slightly trimmed to fit its wood frame, to an overall size of 23.5” x 19.5”. Not examined outside of frame. Depicts a Formal Gala White House Reception with President Lincoln and his wife Mary standing by his side in the foreground, greeting guests which include several uniformed Union Generals including General and Mrs. Grant, and others plus tuxedoed politicians. This reception was given on the evening of March 4, 1865 from 8-11 PM, and supposedly over six thousand people attended. You can actually pick out the famous people in this engraving. An excellent very scarce Print, attractive and suitable for framing and display. Slight even age tone, overall in very nice condition for display.
