<B>Fr. 61 $5 1862 Legal Tender CGA Fine 12 Restored.</B></I> From our 2006 Central States sale where it was described, "There are only about ten examples known of this number, none of which grades higher than Fine. We sold this piece once before in January of 1998. This note appears to be perfect for the grade, but as noted on the CGA holder, it is restored. It has had minor nicks and edge cuts that have been restored so well that only a well-trained eye can detect their presence. This "No Series" Legal Tender Note is, in effect, Series 1 of the 119 series that were printed. Notes were numbered from 1 through 100,000 and then back to 1 again. To distinguish among serial number runs, notes were marked "Series 2," "Series 3" etc., each time a new run of 100,000 was begun. However, the first run of 100,000 was not marked, hence the existence of the very rare Fr. 61. When we sold this last back in 1998, it was estimated at $3000 and realized $3740." This is a scarce note in a hot market.
