66. Floyd McCarty 1943 Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences Annual Still Photography "Class 8" award medal. (1943) Vintage original gold plated award medal measuring 1.75 in. in diameter. The recto features a relief image of the iconic Oscar trophy with relief text, "Annual Still Photography Medal". Verso with relief text, "First Award Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences For Outstanding Achievement to", and engraved, "Floyd McCarty Class 8 1943". McCarty won the honor for a candid photo of stars Peter Lorre and Paul Lukas conversing in the Warner Bros. commissary. His illustrious career as a studio photographer continued for decades, working on East of Eden, Rebel Without a Cause, Giant, Some Like it Hot, and Sayonara to name just a few, and during which time he captured indelible portraits of James Dean (including the famous shot of Dean as "Jett Rink" reclining in his Rolls Royce convertible), Marilyn Monroe, Humphrey Bogart, and Marlon Brando that are among the most recognizable images of the 20th century. Exhibiting some light surface wear to recto and scratching to verso. In vintage good condition. $4,000 - $6,000
