Manufactured in 1886, this particular example is a Third Model with the distinctive integral dust cover rail and distinctive .22 caliber receiver with no loading gate. It's estimated that Winchester produced about 19,550 .22 caliber Model 1873s. German silver blade front sight and adjustable buckhorn sporting rear sight. The top barrel flat is marked with the two line address/King's Improvement patent dates ahead of the rear sight, and "22 CAL" at the breech. The brass elevator is marked "22 CAL / LONG". The model designation is marked on the upper tang and the serial number on the lower tang. There is the letter "F" stamped ahead of the serial number (significance unknown). All blue finish with casehardened hammer and lever, and mounted with a smooth forearm with iron end cap and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate. "RFF" (significance unknown) is stamped into the right wrist.

Condition: Very fine. The barrel retains 90% original blue finish with some muzzle and high edge wear. The receiver retains 70% original blue finish with streaked flaking, edge wear, areas fading to plum and some minor spotting. The magazine tube has a smooth mottled brown patina. The lever and buttplate have a smooth mottled gray patina. The stock is fine with scattered minor dents, dings and scratches. The markings are clear. Mechanically excellent. Fine condition Winchester model 1873, 22's are highly desirable.
