FINE FEDERAL NEW JERSEY TALL CASE CLOCK.
First quarter 19th century. The unusual applewood case with swan's neck pediment with inlaid terminals and mounted with brass spire and ball finials on reeded plinths; the centermost finial above a simulated inlaid plinth within the frieze above the arched door flanked by freestanding colonnettes opening to a paint-decorated enameled sheet iron face. A moon phase dial within the arch above an Arabic numeral chapter ring centering a sweep seconds subsidiary dial above time and strike apertures centering a calendar aperture. The dial decorated with a pair of exotic birds perched on flowering branches within floral painted spandrels. The weight driven brass movement striking on a bell. The cove-molded case with engaged fluted quarter columns centering the astragal arched door with string inlaid oval patera joined to the box base raised on dainty flaring French feet. Interior of case door with pencil and chalk inscriptions, somewhat illegible. Clock is offered with pendulum, weight and finials. SIZE: 94-3/4" h x 12" w of throat x 9" d. CONDITION: Case with professionally repolished cleaned surfaces. The original painted dial with craquelure, with small areas of paint loss, additional areas in arch and lower portions of dial with old repainted surfaces. movement cleaned and refurbished.
