This is an excellent example of a late model Type 44 carbine manufactured by the Kokura Arsenal that is fitted with a late Third Model folding bayonet/front band assembly. The top of the chamber has the Imperial Japanese Chrysanthemum, over the kanji markings for Type "44". The receiver is marked on the left side with the Japanese Series 1 marking next to the late serial number "07543" and the Kokura Arsenal marking. Fixed front and folding elevator rear sights with the fixed curved guard and 13 1/2 inch triangular spike bayonet. The front band/folding bayonet assembly is numbered to match the rifle (543) and secured with two screws. It has the original late war Type 44 stock pistol grip stock, with side mounted sling swivels with a flat butt with small storage compartment for the two-piece cleaning rod, which is still in the butt.
BBL: 19 inch round
Stock: hardwood
Gauge: 6.5 mm Japanese
Finish: blue
Grips:
Serial Number: 07543
Condition: Excellent with 98% of the original blue finish with minor edge and high spot wear overall. The Chrysanthemum is still intact. The stock and hand guard are both excellent with nice original finish showing numerous handling marks in various places, with a slightly heavier gouge on top of the comb area. The carbine has all matching numbers except the firing pin which is unnumbered and the extractor which has assembly number 52 on it, which is correct. This is really an exceptional, all original WWII Type 44 Japanese carbine.
