This is a finely engraved example of a Webley Pryse double action revolver that was manufactured by Webley & Scott circa 1880. The revolver incorporates the rebounding hammer and locking cylinder patented by Charles Pryse in 1876. The revolver has an octagon barrel with integral, "half moon" front sight, six-shot, non-fluted cylinder, checkered one-piece walnut grip and butt cap with lanyard loop. The lower frame, the cylinder and the sides of the barrel are decorated with delicate English scroll engraving. The revolver has a high polish blue finish with niter blue trigger, hammer and smaller components. The "Winged Bullet/W&S" Webley & Scott trademark is roll-stamped on the left side of the frame in front of the cylinder. The serial number "80235" is stamped on the lower left side of the frame. The partial serial number "235" is stamped on the rear face of the cylinder. The revolver is complete with an English style oak case. The case lid is reinforced with brass screws and has a brass escutcheon in the center. The case has a blue fabric lining with six compartments including a thirty-round bullet block. One compartment contains a glass oil bottle.
BBL: 5 1/2 inch
Stock:
Gauge: 455
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut
Serial Number: 80235
Condition: Very fine. The revolver retains 80% plus of the original high polish blue finish. There is edge wear on the high points of the barrel and the cylinder and moderate handling wear on the grip strap, trigger guard and upper portions of the frame. The delicate, well-execute engraving is crisp. The flat-checkered, oil-finished walnut grip is in very good condition with light handling wear. The bore is bright and the action functions perfectly. The case is in fine condition overall. The exterior shows minimal handling wear. The interior is also in fine condition; the lining is slightly faded and has two or three small tears. This is a very fine example of a high quality factory cased and engraved Webley Pryse double action revolver.
