The lot features an excellent early antique example of a forged iron silver mounted and hand engraved El Gato style snake bit. The rattle snake design that is hand engraved on the bit shows a strong likeness to that of the Visalia Gal Leg with Snake Slobber Bar horse bit and could be crafted by the Visalia Stock Saddle Co. of San Francisco or in the likeness of. The bit features two brass rattle snakes as the slobber chains, forged cheek pieces, silver engraved mounted buttons, and rein chains. The bit is in good condition, with signs of use and age. It measures 9 1/4" L x 6 1/4" W. An images of the Visalia Gal Leg Snake Slobber Bar Horse Bit that was sold at Brian Lebel’s Old West Show & Auction’s 6/26/2008 sale for $12,000 is show for example and is not included. This is truly an excellent and possibly rare authentic early 1900’s piece.
