Eastern Woodland Indian 1000-350BP Wood Spoons
Offered in this lot are two primitive carved wood spoons attributed to Eastern Woodland American Indians from 1700"s-1800's. The first spoon is carved from burl wood. The spoon was hand hewn. Many of these early wooden handmade items were traded by the Natives with the early colonists. The wooden bowl on the spoon has a wide shape. The handle is thick and wide. The spoon is in excellent condition, but has had a modern varnish added and a small hole at the top of the handle for a hook to be placed for display. Next is a wonderful antique, early-to-mid 19th century hand carved wooden spoon. The spoon was carved from one piece of wood with a nicely formed hook at the end of the handle. The wood has a wonderful mellow patina. There is typical wear from use, but no breaks, cracks, or repairs. These two spoons are in wonderful condition. The burl spoon measures 8" x 4" and the second spoon measures 9 1/4" x 5".
