Early Sioux Floppy Head Beaded War Club
This is a unique, floppy head stone war club from the Sioux collected at the Standing Rock Sioux Indian Reservation in North Dakota. The antique to vintage piece shows a stone head wrapped in parfleche rawhide sewn with sinew lacing. The club wooden handle is wrapped in parfleche rawhide and sinew sewn as well as showing Indian hide fringes and wraps of old glass trade seed beads in sky padre light blue, chalk white, cobalt, red white heart and black. The end shows a large, twisted hide wrist throng. Provenance: From a large beadwork and weapons collection in Cincinnati, Ohio. The club measures 26-inches long with the head hanging 3-inches down and the stone head being 3-inches across.
