Provided for you in this lot is a Navajo Native American Indian wool rug, crafted in the Chinle Pattern. The rug originates from the early portion of the 1900's, around 1930. The Chinle pattern was developed by Mary Cabot Wheelwright and Cozy McSparron, who sought to revive weaving using classic period design. Soft earth tones, and rich red stand out strong, being accomplished with natural mineral dyes. The Chinle pattern - Often borderless, is characterized by horizontal bands, containing chevrons, Chinle stars, squash blossoms, and in this case - Repeating diamonds. The early rug shows good condition, with vibrant color, and a nice tight weft. The rug shows very subtle color bleeding, and very minimal edge wear. The rug measures 58" x 43".
